Prior to the worship service, the minister will ask one of our young people or someone young at heart, to light the Christ candle as a sign of Christ’s presence among us as we worship. The minister may take the unlit Christ candle into the congregation to have someone who is experiencing a loss or has returned from an illness or is celebrating a milestone, to light the Christ candle.
The minister will call a young person up to the Communion Table and hand them a tapered candle. The young person will then light this candle. With your taper, you light the Christ candle. A candle for the youth will also be lit and they will take it with them when they leave for church school.
Then you blow out the flame on the taper.
Sometimes our little ones blow strongly… then they need to re-light the Christ candle!
If you haven’t had a chance to light the Christ candle…and you would like to do this, please speak to the minister before the service.
