KINDRED SPIRIT
Kindred Spirit deserves a Special Thank You for sharing their many talents over the past 5 years in particular.
Kindred Spirit has shared their musical talents and has provided musical leadership each month at Sunday morning worship. The members are disbanding as they pursue other musical challenges. We wish them well and success. The congregation hopes they will continue to share in their talents periodically; whether together as a group, or individually.
On behalf of the congregation, we thank you and will miss your energy and enthusiasm. Best of Luck.
History of Kindred Spirit
Sometime in the late 1980's a casual group of people gathered (we called ourselves 'closet musicians') to sing favourite songs and play whatever instrument they could bring. There were lots of guitars, a couple of banjos, percussion, a fiddle and the occasional bodhran or other drum. We met weekly for a couple of years and then a dedicated few began 'working up some songs' to sing at seniors homes. This group became known as the 'Joyful Jammers'. They had fun, lots of music and put together a CD which raised some funds for Trinity.
The dynamics of the group changed again and members came and went. A new group of 6 people, along with a sound person, emerged. The level of expectation rose as we challenged ourselves to improve. We changed our name to Kindred Spirit and the group's popularity rose quickly. We held a very successful monthly coffee house, we provided music for Happening in the Park, senior's homes, alternative worship, worship at Trinity, other coffee houses from Oakville to Brantford, events through southern Ontario. Kindred Spirit recorded two CD's: For the Love of Song (a CD of our favourites); and a Christmas CD "Star Child" (a CD in honour and memory of Rev Jim Dowden and included Kindred Spirit as lead vocals and music but with the children of Trinity singing with us. It was a wonderful experience!).
Kindred Spirit made some more changes around 2006. Members left for various reasons and new people were brought on board and dynamics changed again. This new group moved into regular Sunday worship on a monthly basis and had continue there until this past September.
To everyone who has been part of the beginning, the Joyful Jammers years, the Kindred Spirit years and the closing .....thank you for sharing your talents. Thank you for your dedication and time (time for practices, performances, worship, preparation, lugging sound equipment, setting up & taking down equipment, traveling to places, celebrating, studio recordings, selling CDs....more time than others can possibly imagine). Bless each of you & thank you for all those people who supported us over the years!
